The opening film

Asle and Gerd meet in a small coastal town on Norway’s westernmost edge, facing the open sea. They have a son, and for a time their happiness seems complete. But Asle, a sailor, is restless and drawn back to the sea, while Gerd remains in the village, alone with their child. The distance between them grows, raising the question: How much distance can love endure?

Director

Erik Poppe is one of Norway’s most acclaimed and award-winning film directors, known for his ability to combine visually striking filmmaking with themes that engage emotionally and spark public debate. With films such as The King’s Choice (2016), Utøya: 22 July (2018), The Emigrants (2021) and Quisling’s Last Days (2024), he has created powerful cinematic experiences that both move and challenge audiences.
