Nordic folklore with Pilou Asbæk
No Rest for the Wicked is Kasper Kalle's feature film debut, and this work is a stylish mix of gothic love drama and folk horror. The story is set in the Faroe Islands in 1862, where the young fisherman Baldur lives a secluded life in a strict religious community. Everything changes when the enigmatic whaler Helge arrives on the island. The two begin a secret relationship that quickly arouses suspicion among the villagers. At the same time, unexplained events begin to affect the island community: animals disappear, people fall ill, and old stories about a cursed creature from the sea are given new life. What starts as a forbidden romance develops into a dark tale with inspiration from both Nordic folklore and vampire mythology, and perhaps a little bit of the films of Robert Eggers.
